It’s not easy to find a spacious, local cafe with free wifi and ample seating in a trendy place like Harajuku’s Cat Street, where most other coffee options would be mega chains like Starbucks or hip coffee shop stands intended for a quick in and out sip. Ask for the wifi and you shall receive, though connection from the outdoor seatings is fickle at best. Luckily, there’s a number of indoor seats available with power outlets at the ready. The staff was friendly and quick to offer an explanation regarding different types of options on the menu. I was goaded into trying out the Brioche Donut, which was soft, thick, and fluffy—a win all around. Interior atmosphere is a mix of dark wood and industrial backdrops, making for an overall trendy yet comfortable place for a satisfying cup of coffee in Shibuya. @halfrats.travel
Good Ambience. Has free wifi. Although the wifi signal can be very weak when it gets crowded.
Indeed a coffee haven. Price wise, I would say it’s on the higher side. They have lots of different coffee beans, and will give a very brief description on what u gonna expect from each of the coffee bean. Nice place to unwind and catch up with friends. And I love the strong wifi. 🤣
Coffee lovers rejoice! The Roastery on Shibuya ward’s Cat Street is serious about offering a memorable coffee experience.
At the time of our visit, there were two coffee selections from farms that got the nod from the Cup of Excellence competition - Peru’s El Mirador farm (one of the 2021 Peru national winners) and Costa Rica’s Pie San farm (2022 Costa Rica Cup of Excellence rank 12). The staff explained to us what taste and texture to expect and prepared our orders with care.
As for the store space, the minimal use of light turns the ash and rustic gray walls and concrete floor into the color of dark coffee roast. That blends well with the store’s industrial inspired design.
Upon entering, you’ll notice tiny wall-mounted shelves on the right side that can only hold two drinks and an ice cream cone at a time. That is a let-down to be honest. If you prefer more space, there are also wall-mounted but longer and wider counters on the left with power outlets and can accommodate at least four people each. Ditch those two areas and sit instead at a proper table in the storefront’s al fresco dine-in space if you want to have a nice and comfortable chat with your friends.
It is not recommended coming here if your primary purpose is to study, do work on your laptop, or read a book.
